Ballast

It is very hard to pre-define the perfect amount of ballast. Start with a good estimate and then fine-tune from there. What worked one day, may not work the next (due to factors such as number of people in the boat). Use the passengers as ballast. Yep, put them on the side of the boat you want lower.

Cole’s basic setup (small number of people in the boat): 100% in both front and rear bladders. 50% in the rear bladder on the other side (none in the front bladder opposite the low side.

Trim Tabs

The trim tabs can be used to fine-tune the wave. Cole says about 4 for surfing.

Notes

  • Ballast: Start putting in the ballast early, when you are out of the lift. It takes about 10 minutes. See the Profiles section on The tigé page for an easy way to fill the ballasts.
  • Conversely, when returning to the dock/lift from surfing, start emptying the ballasts early. It takes 5 to 10 minutes.
