(Comments by Jim Olen:) Cool article that Marilyn found from the Cambridge, NE newspaper. The timing is interesting. My dad was ordained. I was a ‘bun in the oven,’ to be born later in 1956. My mom’s mom, Mrs. Frank Ross, was there and in the receiving line. However, she would pass away shortly, I believe, before my birth in October 1956 –making it particularly difficult for my mom with a 1st child. Honor Jane Shoemaker lived across the street, with numerous children (most of whom later went to Doane), was great in helping my mom navigate the first baby.
